Jalandhar , February 28

Lone Government Senior Secondary School in Nawanshahr city will get Rs 5 crore, this was announced today in the Budget. As Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal presented the Budget, he announced the allocation of Rs 100 crore for the construction of 4,150 additional classrooms that has been proposed during 2020-21.

With Rs 5 crore having been proposed for the construction of a new block at Government Senior Secondary School, Nawanshahr, the MLA, Angad Singh, expressed gratitude.

He said there was a long-pending demand by city residents for the same. The MLA said there was only one senior secondary school in Nawanshahr city and it had a limited land.

Angad at a recent meeting with Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and the Finance Minister had demanded funds to construct a multipurpose building in Government Senior Secondary School, Nawanshahr.

“The school has been doing well in the district. As we didn’t have any other senior secondary school, I have requested the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister to provide around Rs 4 crore so that we can build a multipurpose building in the school itself,” the MLA had said, adding that at present, there were 1,500 students in the school and the idea is to accommodate 1,000 more.

“I am hopeful that the project will be included in the Budget,” the MLA had said.

The MLA said today that now, there would not be a need to construct another senior secondary school in the city as the construction of the new block would solve the problem and more students could take admission to the school now.

Besides, in the Budget, a special allocation of Rs 3 crore for the construction of a new government senior secondary school at Kidwai Nagar in Ludhiana district was also proposed. — TNS
