Jalandhar, February 16

Members of Bharti Kisan Union (BKU) Doaba who had been staying at the Shambhu border for the last three days, reached here to be a part of the Bharat Bandh call given by Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM). Until last evening, the farmers were at the Shambhu border and they arrived this morning to be present and strengthen the bandh. The farmers said that they were witnessing great support from local farmers too. “They (farmers) here have been telling us that they would come in huge numbers to give momentum to the movement against Central Government,” a member of the BKU Doaba said.

Manjit Rai, president of BKU Doaba said, “We have arrived here and have seen that despite some differences among the leaders, the farmers are ready to go to Delhi. They want to accompany us to Delhi.”

BKU Doaba vice-president Davinder Pal Singh was present at the Behram Toll Plaza today and led the bandh here. He was at Shambhu border since February 13. “We were not expecting the amount of support we received today. We are overwhelmed,” he said. Singh added that many local farmers were approaching him to extend their support.
