Four arrested for gambling

Phagwara: The Nakodar city police have arrested four persons - Basant Lal, Gurpreet, Rajinder Kumar and Rahul Gill - on the charge of gambling. Investigating officer Ranjit Singh said the suspects were playing cards and gambling near the ITI. A sum of Rs 1,880 in cash and playing cards were recovered from their possession. A case under Sections 13-A, 3 and 67 of the Punjab Gambling Act has been registered. The suspects were later released on bail. OC

55-yr-old man goes missing

Phagwara: A 55-year-old man, a resident of Fateh Pur Bhangwan village, has reportedly gone missing. Investigating officer Avtar Singh said Amarjit Singh went to Dashmesh Medical College, Faridkot, for a check-up on January 29, but did not return home. The IO said a missing report had been registered in this regard. OC

Youth hurt in road mishap

Phagwara: A village youth sustained serious injuries when a speeding vehicle hit her near Goraya on Monday night. The injured, identified as Inder (16), a resident of village Chachrari, was first brought to the Civil Hospital, Phagwara, but was then referred to Jalandhar due to his critical condition. The police have registered a case in this connection. OC

Youth attacked by friend

Phagwara: A youth was attacked with sharp weapons by his friend at Nigaha Mohalla, Phagwara, on Monday night. The suspect, identified as Gaurav Nishchal, attacked his friend Shashi Sharma after an altercation when he refused to lend his scooter to him. The victim was admitted to the Civil Hospital here. He was later referred to Jalandhar owing to his serious condition. The police have registered a case against the suspect who managed to flee. OC

Vehicle thief nabbed

Phagwara: The Chiherru police arrested a vehicle thief and recovered a stolen motorcycle from him on Monday night. The suspect has been identified as Kulbaran Singh, a resident of Narur village. A case under Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC has been registered.
