Over 99K kids administered polio drops on Day 1 in dist

Civil Surgeon Gurinder Kaur Chawla and Deputy Director Loveleen Garg inaugurated the three-day pulse polio campaign in the district on Sunday.

The Civil Surgeon said the Health Department would administer polio drops to around 2.5 lakh children between the age group of 0-5 years.

As many as 99,333 children, including 60,412 children in rural areas and 38,921 children in urban areas, received polio drops on the first day of the drive. Bus stand, railway station, 165 brick-kilns, 31 under construction buildings, 667 high-risk areas, 232 slums and families working in factories were targeted under the drive. The Civil Surgeon said a total of 2,097 teams had been formed for the successful conduct of the drive, which would cover 5,43,429 lakh houses.

She said the Health Department had also set up 23 transit teams and 81 mobile teams for successful coverage of all children. Dr Chawla said the department had also constituted 209 supervisory teams for monitoring the drive.

The IMA 2020 team, including president Dr Pankaj Paul, Dr Ashmeet Singh, Dr Munish Singhal, Dr Vikas Sood, Dr Jangpreet Singh and Dr Harish Bhardwaj, also visited an Urban Community Health Centre at Dada Colony, near industrial area here, and participated in the pulse polio campaign organised by the Civil Hospital.

Kapurthala: Three-day national pulse polio round began across Kapurthala district today. Civil Surgeon Jasmeet Bawa inaugurated camps at the Civil Hospital and near Mani Mahesh Mandir here. She also inaugurated a camp at the SDH and Mohalla Deewana at Sultanpur Lodhi.

She also supervised booths in slum areas of Kapurthala. Civil Surgeon Jasmeet Bawa said 590 booths were set up across the district and these were manned by about 1,968 team members during the three-day campaign. — OC
