Jalandhar, January 14

To get rid of the haphazard parking problem, the traffic police have divided the city into four no-parking zones and in each parking zone, one towing van will be stationed.

Earlier, four towing vans used to tow away vehicles from areas close to the traffic police office, leaving most of the markets and busy roads uncovered. Therefore, the traffic police used to receive complaints of jams in the city.

ADCP (Traffic) Gagnesh Kumar said with the number of four-wheelers increasing on city roads, traffic jams had become a regular scene. He said after the deployment of towing vans, along with teams of traffic police personnel, commuters would be refrained from parking their vehicles at wrong places.

At a meeting with traffic police personnel, the ADCP directed them to pick up the wrongly parked vehicles even from crowded areas.

Now, the traffic police can tow away wrongly parked vehicles from the entire northern area, including Mai Hiran Gate, Doaba Chowk, Kishanpura and Phagwara Gate. The central town is already covered by the traffic police.

The ADCP said, “Now, the location of towing vans will be traced so that they won't change their routes.”

He also appealed to residents not to park their vehicles in the no-parking zones. He said residents could approach the traffic police through a helpline number, 1073, if they faced any problems while parking their vehicles.

No-parking sign boards will be installed in the city soon.
