Jalandhar, February 14

Harsimran Kaur (16), who has already made the state proud by making it to the National Basketball Association (NBA), has now been selected for its global camp. Kaur has got an invitation from the NBA to attend the global camp that is being held from February 14 to 16 in Chicago. The camp will be hosted by the NBA itself.

Sukhdev Singh, father of Harsimran, said Harsimran was the only basketball player from the state who had been given this opportunity.

He said Harsimran keeps a balance between her studies and sports.

“She will be back on March 3, and her Class XI exams would start from March 6. It becomes difficult for her to study properly but still wherever she goes, she takes along her books and makes sure that she studies whenever she gets time,” Singh said.

Harsmiran has opted for commerce stream. On March 17, she will leave for Australia for another training camp.

The proud father said though Harsimran had been going to various camps and gets training there, whenever she comes to Kapurthala, she did not miss practice even for a single day here.

“Even during rainy days when there is no possibility to practice on the ground, she instead spends more time in the gym and that too without take a break,” Singh said.

For Harsimran, her life has been just like the story of Hindi movie ‘Dangal’. While earlier talking to The Tribune, she had said: “I have a younger sister who also plays basketball and my father, who is a basketball player, gives us training in a similar way like in the flick. He is strict with us and this is the reason why I have reached where I am today.”

Harsimran had added that: “My father makes sure that we should not miss training even for a day. Also, he is particular about our diet and practice.”

Last year too, she was the only player from the state to have attended the Asian camp held by the National Basketball Association (NBA) Academy and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
