Maria Montessori’s birthday celebrated at Eklavya School, Jalandhar

Jalandhar: Eklavya School celebrated the birthday of physician and educator Maria Montessori by organising a Montessori exhibition in which kids gave presentation about the use of Montessori materials. Chairperson JK Gupta and director Seema Handa graced the event. An exhibition was organised at the school where the kindergarten kids showcased their skills. Known for the philosophy of education, Dr. Maria Montessori is the founder of the Montessori Method of Education. Staff appreciated the efforts done by the students. The event began with the speech of an educator Inderpreet Kaur in which she highlighted the importance of the day and after that an educator Raminder Kaur also threw light on the purpose and importance of Montessori material. There was a colourful rainbow of Montessori aids - pink tower, brown stairs, spindle box, number rods, golden beads, bead bars, cylindrical blocks, red rods, puzzles, flash cards, soft and hard cutouts of different mathematical shapes. Nursery students showed their creativity by making beautiful designs using the hard and soft shapes cutouts which help in improving visual discrimination and recognition of shapes. They also solved the puzzles which help in enhancing their general knowledge and visual discrimination. LKG children exhibited the use of number rods, spindle box, beads and bead bar which help to recognise the numerals, to understand the concept of zero and basic science concepts which will generate their knowledge for life time. Kids made a spinning wheel from colour tablets did addition table through ‘Ganit mala’. Principal Komal Arora and Administrator Dimple Malhotra appreciated the efforts of the students.

Int’l Literacy Day celebrated

The student-teachers of Innocent Hearts College of Education, Jalandhar, celebrated International Literacy Day through virtual reality with 2021 theme given by UNESCO i.e. ‘Literacy for a human-centred recovery, narrowing the digital divide’. Reaching out to the masses for educating them through mass media and spreading the importance of literacy was the main objective of the event. A virtual drama was enacted by the student-teachers with different scenes depicting real-life situations. Ankita Suri performed as the narrator. Surabhi Sharma, Kritika Maggo, Deeksha, Amanpreet Kaur, Kiratpreet Kaur, Ramandeep Kaur, Imandeep Kaur, Richa Dhir and Tanisha played the roles of illiterate and literate individuals. They prepared their own script, composed dialogues themselves, chose appropriate costumes and props, they also added animated backgrounds and joined the clippings of each character. Principal Dr Arjinder Singh said drama incorporates the constructive approach of teaching in which the teacher acts as a facilitator and students construct their own knowledge. The online drama on ‘Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope’ was almost like real drama performance. E-certificates were bestowed to all the participants.

The Department of IT, organised a literacy drive with an aim to celebrate International Literacy Day on September 8 to remind the people the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights. Students of LKCTC took part with vigor and vitality. Students distributed study material to the underprivileged children by their own with an objective to raise awareness and concern for literacy problems. Nidhi Chopra, HoD-IT, Dr Inderpal Singh Hod- Mgt appreciated the efforts of students and motivated them to share the knowledge and help the society. TnS
