Man held on theft charge

Phagwara: The Nakodar city police have arrested a Haryana resident on the charge of stealing tower batteries. SHO Dharminder Kaliayann said the suspect had been identified as Ajay, a resident of Karnal district in Haryana. The SHO said the suspect, who was travelling in a car without a registration number, was intercepted at a naka. Eleven stolen tower batteries and instruments used in committing the crime were recovered from his car. The IO said a case under Sections 457, 380 and 411 of the IPC has been registered against the suspect and his vehicle was impounded. OC

Theft at factory in Phagwara

Phagwara: Unidentified miscreants burgled a factory in Phagwara city on Sunday night. Dharmender Jha, owner of the factory and a resident of Sham Nagar, Phagwara, told the police that the burglars entered his KSI Trading Factory after breaking open the locks and took away 45 grams of gold and Rs 60,000. The police have registered a case under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC. OC

Hospital awaits inauguration

Nakodar: The inaugural ceremony of the 30-bed Mother Child Hospital (MCH) at the Nakodar Civil Hospital has been delayed for more than seven months as the expected VVIP has not indicated the dates on which the programme could be held. Punjab Health Systems Corporation constructed the building at a cost of Rs 6 crore. Its foundation stone was laid by the then Nakodar MLA Gurpartap Singh Wadala on August 1, 2014. Notably, the building was handed over to the Health Department, but it is lying unutilised. The administration is trying to get either the chief minister or senior ministers to inaugurate the hospital. Dr. Sanjiv Kumar senior medical officer said the hospital would be inaugurated soon. The decision would be taken by senior officials.
