Man gets 37 years in jail for raping minor

The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Neelam Arora convicted a youth, Rajesh Kumar, for raping a minor girl after abducting her on the pretext of dropping her to the school.

He has been sentenced to 37 (20+10+7) years imprisonment under various sections, along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh.

In case of non-payment of fine, the convict will have to undergo additional imprisonment of three months.

The court has sentenced Rajesh Kumar to 20 years’ jail under Section 376 (3), 10 years’ imprisonment under Section 366 and 7-year jail under Section 363. The sentences will be run concurrently.

On January 10, 2019, the Dasuya Police had registered a case against the accused, Rajesh Kumar, under various sections on the statement of the minor victim. According to the complaint lodged with the police, the victim, who was studying in Class VIII, was going to school on foot.— OC
