Man gets 20 years’ RI for raping minor

The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Neelam Arora convicted Gurpreet Singh, alias Chandu, of raping a minor at a village in Garhshankar. The court sentenced him to 20 years’ of rigorous imprisonment (RI) with a fine of Rs 25,000 today.

Giving information about the court’s decision, Deputy District Attorney TS Grewal said according to the new law, there was a provision of severe punishment in case of rape of a girl below 16 years. On November 15, 2018, the Garhashankar police had registered a case against Gurpreet under Section 376 (3), IPC.

The victim’s mother had told the police that when she returned home, Gurpreet was committing the crime. Seeing her, the suspect escaped from the spot. Later, he was later arrested by the police.
