A man from Rahon has been booked under Sections 498A and 406 of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly marrying a woman for money so that he could go and settle abroad.

A woman from Rahon in her complaint to the police alleged that her husband’s family had told them that he had cleared IELTS, but didn’t have money to go to Canada.

“They asked us to give some money and then promised my family that they would get us married. When we got married, my father gave them furniture and Rs 7 lakh in cash to my in-laws. Even after marriage, my in-laws kept demanding more money from my parents,” the woman claimed in her statement.

She further said when her husband went to Canada, he called her and asked her to arrange more money. “Also, I came to know that he had married me just for money and was actually involved with some other woman,” the complainant alleged.

After recording the complainant’s statement, a case has been registered against her husband.
