Books on Guru Nanak get a reprint after 51 years

It was in 1971 when books like Guru Nanak Varta and Miti Dhundh Jagg Chanan Hoya were last printed. Now, these books for children have been reprinted after a long gap of 51 years. Guru Nanak Varta is printed in Hindi and Punjabi, while its English version is named as Story of Guru Nanak.

The District Language Department has also received hundreds of copies of these books. According to a language department official, these books are for children where they get to learn and know about the Guru.

As per the information, book named Punjab by Mahinder Singh Randhawa, which was last got printed 10 years ago in 2012, was also reprinted.

It is not for the first time that books have been reprinted after a long wait. Earlier in 2017 too, Mahan Kosh, an encyclopaedia of Punjabi, was printed after years and it had brought cheer to the literature lovers. The encyclopaedia was written by Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha. The book has around 1,250 pages and is considered the best guide to the Punjabi language as it has old maps of India and pictures related to history that is otherwise hard to find. According to writers and officials of the department, one can find every possible Punjabi word and its meaning in this book.

Now, the department is also organising several programmes every month which was not happening earlier. Recently a Ru-Ba-Ru programme was held where an interactive session was organised with writer Sarita Sharma and then a kahani darbar was also organised where storytellers were invited.

Now in upcoming events, the language department is planning to hold a special programme on Warish Shah and then Sawan Kavi Darbar (during monsoon).

Navneet Rai, Research Officer in the department, said the decision to reprint the books was great. “Such books prove to be a great experience in one’s life,” said Rai. Since many years, the department is without any District Language Officer and the Research Officer joined last year.
