Jalandhar, June 30

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ghanshyam Thori on Thursday solicited the support of farmers in speedy possession of the land to be acquired under various national highway (NH) projects being carried out in the district.

In a meeting with representatives of the Kisan Road Sangharsh Committee at the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner said several road development projects, including the Delhi-Katra Expressway, Jalandhar Bypass, Amritsar-Bathinda Greenfield Bypass, widening of NH-70 and Adampur flyover and others, were projects of national importance.

He said the possession of land would clear all bottlenecks in early start of construction work on these projects. He said the district administration was committed to the welfare of the farmers whose land was being acquired under these projects.

Thori assured the farmers that their concerns — transfer of land value fixed by the arbitrator directly into the bank accounts of farmers, providing the irrigation facilities on remaining land before the start of projects, construction of service roads according to requirement of farmers and others — would be taken seriously. He also appealed to the farmers whose land was being acquired under these projects to not grow any crop.
