Jalandhar, August 1

A month has passed since ban on single-use plastic, but the Municipal Corporation has not started any penalty on those who are still using plastic items.

Today, the Municipal Corporation organised a seminar at the Red Cross Bhawan with various market associations to apprise them regarding the ban. From Tuesday, challans will be imposed by the MC on those violating the ban on single-use plastic.

Dr Shri Krishan Sharma, Assistant Health Officer, MC, said it was a detailed seminar and the market associations were told about the alternatives that they could use. “I have observed a little change. Now, shopkeepers are refraining themselves from giving plastic carry bags to the customers, which is really a good and motivating thing,” he said.

He said from tomorrow no one would be exempted from using the banned plastic items, especially the wholesale manufacturers.
