Jalandhar: 4 arrested with drugs, poppy husk

Jalandhar: Mehatpur police arrested four persons with poppy husk, intoxicating tablets and illicit liquor in different cases here on Sunday. The police said a man identified as Major Singh, a resident of Boote Dian Channan village, was nabbed with 1 kg of poppy husk. A case under Sections 15(b), 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act had been registered against him. Similarly, the police nabbed a man, identified as Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Dharme Dian Channan village, from the same village and 220 intoxicating tablets were seized from him. A case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him. In yet another case, two wanted accused — Jaswant, alias Jassa, a resident of Dharme Dian Channan village, and Farid, alias Farida, a resident of Dharme Dhian Channan — were arrested by Mehatpur police. Only 69% above 12 get corbevax

Jalandhar: Around 96 per cent of children above 12 have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in the district while only 69 per cent have got the second dose. Notably, corbevax is being given to children above 12 years of age. As per information, the second dose will be given to the remaining students once the schools reopen. Health Department officials said since the schools were closed and the camps were being held there, it was not possible to inoculate them. “Students do not come to dispensaries, which is why it is difficult to meet the target. Once the schools reopen, we will cover them all,” the official said. TNS

One held with drug tablets

Jalandhar: The city police arrested a man with 100 intoxicant pills here on Sunday. The accused has been identified as Rajan, alias Nazar, a resident of Baba Budha Ji Nagar, Rama Mandi. The police said Rajan was arrested during routine checking near the Rama Mandi chowk. They said ASI Satnam Singh along with police personnel was on patrol from the Kaki village chowk towards Dakoha Gate when they spotted Rajan near the Rama Mandi flyover. “On seeing the police vehicle approaching him, the accused tried to flee the spot, but the police got hold of him. On checking, 100 intoxicant pills were seized from his possession,” they added. A case under Sections 22, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him. TNS

One held with 12-gm intoxicants

Jalandhar: The city police arrested a person, allegedly involved in drug trade, on Saturday evening. The accused has been identified as Sagar, a resident of New Model House. The police seized 12 gm of intoxicating substance from his possession. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him at the Bhargo Camp police station. The police said the accused would be produced in a local court on Monday, and would seek police remand to further ascertain the source from where he was procuring drugs and how many persons were involved in this illegal trade.
