Hit by speeding car, woman dies

A woman died after she was hit by a rashly driven car here yesterday. The deceased has been identified as Kiran Devi.

In his statement to the police, Kiran’s husband Pukhraj said the incident took place while they were going on foot to their home in Saloh village. A car being driven at a high speed rammed into his wife. The woman, who suffered serious injuries in the mishap, was shifted to a hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival. The car driver was nabbed on the spot.

In another case, a man suffered serious injuries after the scooter he was riding pillion was hit by a car in Behram. The victim, identified as Navpreet Singh, is undergoing treatment in a hospital in Jalandhar.

No let-up in road mishaps

n A woman, Usha Rani, was killed after an auto-rickshaw she was travelling in was allegedly hit by a speeding Scorpio (four-wheeler) in Nawanshahr earlier this month.

n Two brothers from Nawanshahr died after the bike they were riding was hit by a Fortuner SUV.

n On January 2, two migrant workers lost their lives after the bike they were riding was hit by a car in Nawanshahr.

n On January 3, a woman, Kamaljit Kaur (40), died while her daughter, Jasmeet Kaur from Balachaur, suffered serious injuries after the two-wheeler they were riding was hit by a car.

n On January 16, a man, Lakhwinder Singh (40), a resident of Sadar Banga, succumbed to his injuries after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a tractor-trailer.
