Gangster seeks Rs 5L extortion, lands in police net

The Nakodar city police have arrested a gangster on the charge of seeking extortion.

Investigation officer (IO) Rajinder Pal Singh said the suspect had been identified as Sandeep Singh, a resident of Malarri village.

The IO said the victim, a resident of the same village, complained to the police that he received an extortion call demanding Rs 5 lakh. The caller threatened to kill his son if he failed to pay the money.

The investigation officer said a case under Sections 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (committing a crime with the common intention) of the Indian Penal Code had been registered against the suspect.
