A research team of the CT Group of Institutions, North Campus (Maqsudan), comprising Navdeep Singh, assistant professor (ECE), and Harkirat Singh, HoD (mechanical engineering), has developed a UVC ‘disinfectant robot’. This invention is based on Ultraviolet-C light, which deactivates the DNA of bacteria, virus and other pathogens and destroys their ability to multiply and cause diseases. Harkirat Singh said: “This robot can be used to sanitise living areas such as classrooms, offices, party halls, rooms, corridors, etc, through its 360° disinfecting technology. It kills 99.9 per cent bacteria by exposing UVC light within minutes. It is an application based Wi-Fi controlled device that is operated using smartphones.” Dr Jasdeep Kaur Dhami, director, CT Group of Institutions, North Campus, appreciated the efforts of the team and encouraged them to perform more research-based activities in future also. Manbir Singh, MD, CT Group, said: “Our research team has developed many projects during Covid-19 that will help in preventing virus and now, this robot is another addition towards it.”
