Councillor takes steps to provide daily-use items

Taking measures to ensure supply of essential items and social distancing among residents, councillor of ward no. 50 today made customers stand on circles maintaining six-metre distance who came for purchasing essential items.

Sherry Chaddha, the councillor of the ward, said: “From the past three days, ward residents had been complaining about shortage of essential items and urging him to ensure the supply of vegetables, fruits and other essentials. I approached the administration officials to allow me to arrange setting up of temporary vegetable and fruit stalls at Rainak Bazar, Jyoti Chowk and Pucca Bagh streets.”

He then drew around 20 circles of two-cm radius each that were at a distance of at least six metres. Besides, only those people were allowed to buy vegetables who were wearing masks and gloves. Each person was given two-minute time to purchase only the staple items. Vegetables were provided to the residents on subsidised rates as after the curfew was imposed.

Sherry said till the supplies were delivered to each and every household, the stall would be set up for three hours in his ward between 6-9 am. To ensure zero contact of the residents, two cops have also been deployed by the administration. Meanwhile, essential commodities will be provided to the poor free of cost.
