The candidates from various parties across the Doaba region are making various plans for the last day of the campaigning tomorrow ahead of polling on February 20.

The candidates want to conclude their campaign with something big and impactful so that it influences the voters’ mind in their favour. Aam Aadmi Party candidate from Jalandhar West Sheetal Angural says that he has got readied a big vehicle for his final show. “I will be standing in this vehicle from 10 am to 4 pm making the last fervent appeal to my voters. There will be few cars also going along with me. We will park the vehicles wherever we find space – in the parking areas of the market, in the intersections of the roads. I will try to establish as much contact as possible and go around all areas before the canvassing time ends,” he shared his plan.

Likewise, Congress candidate from Jalandhar Central seat Rajinder Beri has planned a foot march across various parts of the city. Calling it a ‘paidal yatra’, he has plans to walk for eight hours tomorrow starting from his residential area in Central Town towards Milap Chowk. From 3 pm to 5 pm, he will be in Rama Mandi area. “Today, he covered a large part of Phagwara Gate and Chahar Bagh. So we planned it for the remaining areas tomorrow,” said his campaign managers.

Beri’s rival and BJP candidate Manoranjan Kalia says that roadshows and big events do not ultimately convert votes. “It is always the last-minute personal contact which helps, which is why I have decided to keep my campaign no-frills and confine it to door-to-door event even on the last day.”

BJP candidate from Jalandhar Cantonment seat Sarabjit Makkar said: “We are yet to finalise the last day campaign programme. We will all sit together late evening after today’s campaign and chalk out the details”.

Cantonment Congress candidate Pargat Singh’s wife Barinderpreet Kaur, who has been actively working for him, said: “I feel that there is no benefit of big events and roadshows. People are made to wait along roadsides and it becomes more of an inconvenience and a nuisance. It will be better if we go on door-to-door like the way we have been doing for the past one month”.

Some candidates like Rana Inder Partap Singh, who is contesting as an Independent candidate from Sultanpur Lodhi, have already got roadshow organised today itself across the narrow lanes of the villages. Several youth had participated in the rally carrying flags on bikes and cars.
