Aided school teachers in Jalandhar sans salary for past four months

Teachers of aided schools haven’t received their salaries for the past four months. During a meeting held to discuss the deteriorating state of aided schools and regarding holding meetings with the government on the issue, teachers said they had been left ignored by successive governments.

The meeting of the Aided School Employees’ Association was held under Punjab Core Committee president Baldev Singh. It was also reiterated during the meeting that teachers had met state government ministers, MLAs and officials regarding their issues and aired their grievances but got nothing more than assurances.

State press secretary and spokesperson of the association Manish Aggarwal said: “Aided school employees have not received salaries for the past four months. It has been over two months since we sent estimates for 2022-23. Despite being contacted repeatedly, the Mohali DPE Office cites the unavailability of an officer concerned. The Education Department had also been requested to appoint the official soon but to no avail. We are facing a lot of inconvenience due to the delay in pay. On the other hand, aided schools’ employees, like government school ones, also have a right to salaries as per the Sixth Pay Commission Report but even after over six months, the government has not released a letter for them.”

Members of the association said in addition to this, the students studying in aided schools were also an ignored lot. They too are entitled to get benefits on par with government school students, like books, mid-day meal, uniform, shoes and other facilities.

They said aided schools play a key role in the state. But most of the organising committees at aided schools are economically weak due to which they lack infrastructure development. The association demanded that the state government should release a special grant for aided schools.
