Admn to hold mega fair to mark Int’l Women’s Day on March 8

The district administration will organise a mega fair to celebrate International Women’s Day this year.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal today reviewed arrangements for a mega fair being organised by the district administration on March 7. Chairing a meeting at his office today, the Additional Deputy Commissioner said the fair would be held at the local Nehru Garden and it would be organised exclusively for women on the theme of women empowerment.

He said leading schools, colleges, women entrepreneurs, representatives of people and social organisations would be participating in the event, which will be held from 4 pm.

Sarangal said besides showcasing initiatives taken by the state government to ensure the empowerment of women, thrust would also be laid on highlighting various schemes of the government for welfare of women.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner said during the fair, stalls would also be installed for exhibiting handicrafts, art and culture, food and other items of the state.

He said during the fair, lectures would also be delivered by eminent personalities with an aim to motivating the women. Special emphasis would also be laid on showcasing the rich legacy of Punjabi culture through a series of cultural items.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner said duties had been assigned to staff for making the event a grand success. He said for eliciting maximum participation of women and girls, schools and colleges were also being roped in.

Sarangal said the fair was being organised in line with the commitment of the state government, led by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, to make women active partners in social and economic growth of the state.

District Programme Officer AS Bhullar, Field Publicity Officer Rajesh Bali, SVEEP Assistant Coordinator Surjit Lal were among thos others present.
