733 Covid cases in July so far, 265 in past 3 days

While the number of Covid deaths in the district was recently revised to 1944 (with an addition of 346 deaths), the new cases in July so far has also surpassed the total caseload of the past three months, with the reporting of 733 new infections and two deaths.

75 test +ve in district

As many as 75 Covid cases were reported in Jalandhar district on Sundat. With this, the total Covid cases in Jalandhar jumped to 79,302. As many as 767,005 people have recovered from Covid in the district. The number of active cases in Jalandhar stands at 351. The total death toll remains constant at 1,944, with no casuality reported from anywhere in the district.

Rise not exponential, Nothing to worry

Even though the cases are on the rise, people continue to move without masks and avoid following Covid-appropriate behaviour at public places. However, health authorities said there were no specific guidelines to make masks mandatory in the district, nor was there any exponential rise in the cases and hospitalisations.

The district saw 96 cases in April, 66 in May and 181 in June — a total of 343 cases. In July, until today - 733 cases have already been reported. In the past three days alone, 265 cases have been reported in the district. The district single day case tally today is 75 and the total number of cases reported so far are 79,302. “We are not considering this an exponential rise as previously seen in the cases of Covid. Even if on a given day 50 to 75 patients are being reported in the district, the number of admissions is hardly one or two. The recovery rate is also very good. Patients are recovering within five to seven days. We will only appeal to people that caution be exercised by immuno-comprmised patients or those with co-morbidities, lung disease, cancer etc. and they must wear a mask when they step out,” said Dr Raman Sharma, Civil Surgeon.

“We also held a review meeting regarding Covid recently wherein all emergency measures in place were reviewed. So far it seems the wave will subside soon,” he added.
