6 hurt in gas cylinder blast

Leakage said to be reason behind incident at Qadianwali village

Six persons, including two children, suffered injuries in a gas cylinder explosion at Qadianwali village here on Thursday. The reason behind the incident is said to be a gas leakage.

Gurmeet Kaur, alias Lado, along with her relatives Sukhdeep Kaur, Manjit Kaur, Ram Lubhaya and children Khushi (10) and Simran (15) sustained injuries in the accident.

While Gurmeet Kaur’s father Lakhwinder Singh had died two days ago. The explosion happened when she was making tea for her relatives in the kitchen. Gurmeet’s sister also received injuries in the blast.

While Gurmeet suffered 30-35 per cent burns, the rest of the injured suffered 10-15 per cent burn injuries.

The incident took place in the morning. The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Jalandhar.

Kamaljit Singh, SHO, Sadar police station, said, “It’s a case of cylinder explosion caused due to a leakage of gas. When Gurmit Kaur lit the gas, it flared up. Some sustained injuries while trying to douse the flames. However, none of the injured are serious and as per doctors all are out of danger.”

The SHO said police had recorded the statement of relatives and panchayat members.
