Jalandhar: Twenty-seven new Covid cases were reported in Jalandhar on Saturday, taking the total number of infections in Jalandhar to 78,867. As many as 77,143 persons have recovered from Covid in the district, while the number of active cases stands at 143. The tally of fatalities stands at 1,581, with no new death reported. One booked for ‘raping’ minor
Phagwara: On the complaint lodged by a woman of Khalwara village, the Sadar police have booked a youth, Lavish, of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar here on the charges of raping and abducting her minor daughter, who has been missing since July 13. The complainant told the police that her daughter went to school in Phagwara, but never returned home. She alleged the accused took her daughter to his friend’s house and raped her. The accused has been booked under Section 376, IPC, and Section 4 of the POCSO Act. No arrest has been made so far.
7 booked for attacking man
Hoshiarpur: The Sadar police have registered a case against seven persons on the charge of attacking and seriously injuring a man on Friday. According to information, Harmanpreet Singh, a resident of Nandachor, told the police that he was going to a religious place in Chohal. He said on reaching near Banjar Bagh, Arshpreet Singh, alias Ashu, Baldev Singh, Ajay, all residents of Kattowal, Jeevan and Jassi, residents of Bullowal, besides Labhpreet Singh, alias Labha, and Gurvinder Singh, alias Ginda, residents of Kalubahar allegedly attacked him with sharp weapons. Man killed in road accident
Hoshiarpur: A labourer died after being hit by a tempo last evening near Garhshankar. According to information, Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Garhi Mansowal, told the police that his brother Arun Kumar was resting on the roadside in Adda Satnor. A tempo ran over him killing him on the spot, while some labourers were also injured in the accident. The police have registered a case against the driver, Karanvir, a resident of Moyla. TNS
