Amarnath Yatra resumes as weather improves

Jammu, July 6

The Amarnath Yatra was on Thursday resumed from both the Baltal and Nunwan base camps in Kashmir a day after it was suspended due to inclement weather. Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar stated in a Tweet, “The Yatra, which was suspended temporarily and halted in Jammu due to bad weather conditions, has now been resumed on account of improved weather conditions.”

Meanwhile, 5,982 pilgrims from Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu started their journey in over 200 vehicles.

The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar issued a statement, informing that during the next five days scattered to fairly widespread rain in the plains of Jammu, mainly during morning hours, and scattered light to moderate rain in Kashmir on July 8-9 was expected.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta, who chaired a meeting civil and police officials late on yesterday evening, enquired about the arrangements put in place for pilgrims after the Yatra was suspended.

Mehta also directed the traffic police to facilitate movements of perishable items, tourists and people alike on the highway as well as the Yatra routes.
