Jammu, February 21

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Jammu and inaugurated several developmental projects in presence of thousands of supporters, BJP’s J&K president Ravinder Raina on Wednesday said his party would win all the six Lok Sabha (LS) seats in J&K and Ladakh. With many leaders from other parties recently joining the BJP, Raina said the doors of his party were open to anyone who wanted to serve the people. He was addressing a press conference here.

Raina hails Farooq, Baig for praising PM

  • BJP’s J&K president Ravinder Raina thanks NC president Farooq Abdullah and former deputy CM Muzaffar Hussain Baig for praising Modi during his rally at Maulana Azad Stadium.
  • He says party’s doors are open to those who want to serve people.

While J&K has five Lok Sabha seats, including three in Kashmir and two in Jammu division, Ladakh has one seat. Raina told reporters that preparations were on in all the six parliamentary constituencies of J&K and Ladakh. “We will win all these seats with the support of the people,” Raina said.

He said his party was sure that the people would whole-heartedly support Narendra Modi who had brought development to every nook and corner of J&K and Ladakh.

Raina thanked the leaders of various opposition parties, including National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and former deputy CM Muzaffar Hussain Baig, for praising Modi during his rally at Maulana Azad Stadium on Tuesday.

While Abdullah joined the function at the Nowgam railway station in Srinagar, Baig attended the rally. Asked about rumours of former minister Choudhary Lal Singh returning to the party fold ahead of the elections, he said, “It is good (if he is back in the party). We have kept our doors open and everyone is welcome. We should all come together to serve the people.” Singh, the chairman of the Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party (DSSP), was granted bail by a special court in Jammu on December 23 last year after he was arrested by the ED in a money laundering case in November 23.

A two-time MP and three time MLA, Singh switched from the Congress to the BJP in 2014. However, he resigned from the BJP following an uproar over his participation in a rally in support of an accused in a rape and murder of the eight-year-old girl in Kathua in January 2018. However, he defended his participation in the rally, stating that he was there to “defuse the situation”.

Thanking people for the warm welcome accorded to the PM despite inclement weather, Raina said the people knew the reality as Modi ended injustice to various sections of the society by granting their rights, ensured massive development in all sectors and laid the foundation of peaceful and prosperous J&K.

He also praised Modi for inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of development projects worth over Rs 32,000 crore. (With inputs)
