A video of a Kashmiri man jumping into a freezing and violently gushing river to rescue three stranded boys has gone viral.

Most parts of the Jammu region have been receiving heavy rains for the past few days.

Reportedly, one of the teens, who is supposed to be a good swimmer, got stuck after there was a sudden increase in the water levels at the Sindh river in Ganderbal District.

The 38-year-old Kashmiri man, who is known in the area for his exceptional swimming skills, was called in for help.

Video of the entire incident has gone viral.

IAS officer Shah Fesal took to the microblogging website, and shared the video of the incident. He praised Bashir, his dear friend, for his bravery.

"Bashir is a dear friend. He is a very brave person and an amazing swimmer. He has saved many lives before this. Proud of him.

With the prediction of more rains till July-end, authorities have already asked people living along water bodies and slide-prone areas to remain vigilant.

A Meteorological Department spokesperson said widespread intermittent rain is most likely to prevail across Jammu and Kashmir till July 30.

"Heavy to very heavy rain is possible at some places and may lead to flash floods, mudslide, landslide and waterlogging (in low-lying areas). People are advised to remain alert as water level has risen in all rivers (owing to incessant rains)," he said.

The spokesperson asked people not to venture on hilly, landslide and mudslide-prone areas. — With PTI
