Ultra killed, cop, 2 soldiers injured in J&K encounter

Srinagar, July 30

A militant was killed and three security personnel were wounded in an encounter in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. A sniffer dog of the Army’s 29 Rashtriya Rifles’ dog unit was also killed. After the security forces received information about the presence of a militant at Wanigam-Bala village of the district, a cordon and search operation was launched by a joint team of the police, Army and CRPF. “The encounter started after the militant opened fire at the forces and in retaliation, he was killed. Two Army soldiers and a policeman were wounded. A sniffer dog was also killed,” SSP Rayees Mohammad Bhat said. The identity of the slain militant was yet to be ascertained.
