Jammu, January 11

Amid search operations in forest areas of Rajouri and Poonch to eliminate Pakistani ultras, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and J&K Police seized four tiffin bombs, AK series rifle bullets and wireless communication devices in Rajouri.

Four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in form of tiffin bombs and other material were found from Manjakot area of the district after an intelligence input was received by the security forces.

“A cordon and search operation (CASO) was launched by the security forces on the basis of intelligence input to the CRPF. The J&K police were informed about the operation before the searches were launched,” an official said.

Troops of the C Company of the 237th battalion of the CRPF, along with local police, undertook the operation.

The four IEDs concealed in tiffin boxes, 23 live bullets of AK rifles, a wireless set and a tape recorder were recovered from the spot. It is believed that the wireless set would have been used by terrorists to communicate within themselves after infiltration from Pakistan. The material was hidden by an over-ground worker (OGW), sources said. The operation was conducted at around 7 am on Thursday.

Search operations in the forest areas of Rajouri and Poonch have increased after an ambush on two Army vehicles in Poonch on December 21, 2023.
