Three drug peddlers held in Kishtwar; contraband seized

Jammu: Police on Sunday arrested three drug peddlers and recovered “heroin-like substances” in Kishtwar district, officials said. Acting on a specific tip-off, a police team intercepted a vehicle carrying three persons at Malipath area of Kishtwar, they said. The trio was identified as Asif Kabir, Arif Hussain and Tariq, officials said. A case has been registered and investigation is underway, they added. PTI

Diversion of Chenab river begins for Ratle project

Srinagar: In a major development, the NHPC on Sunday said it has achieved a milestone by starting the diversion of the Chenab river for its Ratle project. This step marks progress toward the operation of the dam for the 850-MW Ratle Project. In a statement here, the NHPC said, “The river diversion will enable isolation of dam area at river bed for starting excavation/ construction of dam which is a critical activity. It shall expedite the project construction activities and help in minimising delays so as to facilitate all efforts being made by Project to achieve the scheduled commissioning date of May 2026.”
