Mumbai man dupes lecturer of Rs 9.19 lakh

The Crime Branch, Jammu, registered a case against a Mumbai-based man for duping a Jammu woman lecturer of Rs 9.19 lakh via shadi.com website.

The cheat has been identified as Rajeev Bharanatti, resident of Flat No-104, Mahavir Darshan, Plot No-5A, Sector-06, Kopar Khairnee, Navi Mumbai.

According to a handout issued by the Crime Branch, both the accused and the victim came to know each other on the matrimonial site and remained in constant touch until the complainant was duped.

A written complaint was received by the Crime Branch, Jammu, that the woman came in contact with the accused through matrimonial site shadi.com in 2015 and remained in constant touch with him on telephone.

Later, the accused demanded some money from the complainant on the pretext of ailment of his father, who was to purportedly undergo treatment and kidney transplant, with the assurance that he would return the same. The complainant trusted the accused and transferred Rs 9.19 lakh from her bank account to different accounts of the accused on different occasions.

After some time the accused started avoiding the complainant and ultimately did not attend her calls. This led the complainant to realise that she had been duped.

The Crime Branch, Jammu, initiated a preliminary verification and it was prima facie established that the complainant has been duped of her hard-earned money by the accused via matrimonial site shadi.com.

A case under Section 420 of the IPC was registered against the Mumbai man.
