Srinagar, September 14

Announcing that Jammu and Kashmir will soon get an economic package as never before, Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha said on Monday that a big package as never before to revive the economy was in the offing.

“A committee constituted to suggest a package for business and other ailing sectors has submitted its report. The report is under consideration with the Government of India and I think within a week’s time, there is going to be a major announcement about a package as never before,” the L-G said. He also said that “Back to village programme—3” would commence on October 2 and before that, every panchayat halqa would get Rs 10 lakh for various development works.

The L-G promised that justice would be done to the families of the “missing” Rajouri labourers, assumed to have been killed in an “encounter”. The families of the youths had written to L-G Sinha on Friday, expressing anguish over the delay in getting the DNA reports and sought his intervention to help them receive the bodies. “The probe by the administration and the Army is under way. I will ensure that there is no injustice,” the L-G said.
