J&K count crosses 50K mark; toll 854

With 1,578 new positive cases — 808 from the Jammu division and 770 from the Kashmir valley — during the last 24 hours, the Covid count in Jammu and Kashmir reached 50,712.

Meanwhile, J&K reported nine deaths — six from the Jammu division and three from the Kashmir valley — during the same period, taking the death toll to 854.

As many as 474 more patients — 137 from the Jammu division and 337 from the Kashmir valley — have recovered and discharged from various hospitals.

According to the official bulletin issued on Friday evening, out of 50,712 positive cases, 15,169 are active, 34,689 have recovered and 854 have died — 137 in the Jammu division and 717 in Kashmir.

The bulletin said out of 11,77,773 test results available, 11,27,061 samples have tested negative.

Meanwhile, to contain further spike of coronavirus cases, the District Administration, Samba, is going to start rapid testing of all the inbound train passengers at the four railway stations of Ghagwal, Samba, Vijaypur and Bari-Brahmana.

Deputy Commissioner Rohit Khajuria today chaired a meeting and ordered 100 per cent Covid testing of the inbound passengers coming from trains at all the railway stations in the district. He stressed upon the committee members formed for testing to ensure that all the passengers are tested before they were allowed to go to their homes. Medical teams for testing would be deployed at all four railway stations.

The Samba Deputy Commissioner emphasised that all Tehsildars should work in close coordination with station masters and provide the necessities required for carrying out the testing process smoothly.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the district officers to properly display signage and banners and provide water at sitting areas to the passengers so that no inconvenience was caused to them. Rohit Khajuria directed them to submit daily reports to his office.
