Fear grips people in Jammu as COVID-19 cases rise

Fear has returned to Jammu with the region witnessing a daily spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the past few days.

Though enough relaxations have been made by the UT administration for the easy movement of people and vehicular traffic, yet attendance on roads has come down with residents preferring to stay indoors.

Even number of private vehicles plying on the city roads has reduced considerably in the past few days as people are worried about the fast spread of infection in Jammu.

“Under lockdown 4.0, very few cases used to be reported from Jammu and the administration acted immediately to seal the area for longer times. Now every day cases are rising and deaths too are reported, which is a worrisome,” said Rajat Behl, a resident of Trikuta Nagar.

Besides, in the absence of any activity or function, people have almost stopped shopping for clothes, footwear, utensils and other non-essential items.

There is no rush of women to jewellery stores while eateries that used to be crowded by people are wearing a deserted look.

“Unlock 1 has turned dangerous and many people are getting infected here. While there is no other means of protection, we prefer to stay home despite relaxations,” said Vandana Mahajan, a resident of Rehari Mohalla.

“Vegetables and grocery items are available at the local stores while medical shops too are approachable. Nothing much is required in the present situation,” she added.
