Jammu, July 19

In wake of renewed threat owing to arrest of terrorists belonging to Lashker-e-Taiba modules in Jammu division, the police, along with Special Operations Group (SOG), today carried out an anti-terror mock drill at the vital Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, a route taken by Amarnath pilgrims.

The mock drill was carried out specifically in areas around the famous Chichi Mata temple along the highway in Samba district. Several SOG and CRPF men carried out the drill that also used technology in form of drones and sophisticated communication devices.

The drill was carried out a day after the J&K police busted three terror modules of LeT in Jammu who were tasked among other things to carry out attacks on minorities, including Hindu pilgrims. Security forces surrounded the entire perimeter of the temple and carried out the drill.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Garu Ram said that the exercise was carried out at the ancient temple to be prepared for any eventuality. “This is an ancient temple where many pilgrims coming to Vaishno Devi and Amarnath stop during their journey. This is a very significant place so it is the responsibility of security forces to secure this area. For this, a mock drill was held in which SOG and CRPF participated,” he said.

He informed that during the drill, it was seen as to how the building would be secured in case of any eventuality. “Response time was measured and loopholes were also plugged,” said the DSP.
