Pakistan also violates ceasefire in Pooch district, Indian forces retaliate

Srinagar, June 12

A civilian was killed in cross-LoC shelling between India and Pakistan in the Hajipeer sector of north Kashmir’s Uri district along the Line of Control, officials said here on Friday.

Pakistan began shelling Indian posts at 8 am, officials said. They said Indian forces retaliated to the firing.

The shelling has continued since in Uri, the officials said.

The civilian killed in the shelling has been identified as Akhtar Begum of Uri's Batgran area.

The heavy shelling has caused panic in the villages of Torna, Hathlanga, Churanda and Gohallan in Uri.

Pakistan also violated the truce in the Kerni and Qasba sectors of district Poonch.

According to the Army officials, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and intense shelling with mortars along the LoC in Kerni and Qasba sectors around 0415 hours on Friday.

Our forces posted on the LoC retaliated befittingly, the officials said. No loss was reported till last report.

On Thursday, a soldier was killed in Pakistani firing along the LoC in Rajouri.
