Jammu, January 23

A special CBI court has framed charges against the then Doda Deputy Commissioner Farooq Khan in fake gun licence scam.

CBI Special Judge Bala Jyoti today framed the charges against Khan, who issued more than 12,000 licences during his posting as Doda DC from June 1, 2010 to April 24, 2013.

Accused Parmodh Kumar Sharma of M/s. Nav Durga Gun House has been implicated as the principal conspirator in the chargesheet. According to prosecution, Sharma visited the then Assistant Commandant of CRPF, LD Umesh, at Shillong,Meghalaya, in 2013 and asked him to fill a gun licence form in back date by misrepresenting the facts.

Umesh furnished the duly filled application form to Sharma and gave Rs 7,000 as illegal gratification for issuance of arms licences.

The judge after hearing both the sides observed that prima facie it appears that offences under Sections 120-B, 420 RPC and 5(1) and r/w 5(2) of PC Act Svt. 2006 are made out, hence they are chargesheeted for commission of offences.

Fake gun licence scam had rocked J&K after which an investigation was launched by CBI. Many former and serving IAS and other officers are under scanner in the scam. Many outsiders had got their licences issued from J&K by allegedly paying bribe.
