CBI raids 41 locations in fake arms licensing case

A few days after he was relieved from the post of the adviser to J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, the CBI today searched the residence of Baseer Ahmed Khan, alongside those of two other serving IAS officers in an alleged fake arms licences’ case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation, in an official release, said, “Including the former and serving administrative officers of J&K, the agency conducted searches at around 41 locations, including Srinagar, Anantnag, Banihal, Baramulla, Jammu, Doda, Rajouri, Kishtwar in J&K, Leh, Delhi and Bhind in Madhya Pradesh at the official and residential premises of around 14 the then district magistrates and other public servants.

The CBI said the search operations also covered five private persons, who allegedly acted as middlemen and agents, besides 10 gun houses or dealers.

It led to the recovery of incriminating documents, including those related to the issuance of arms licences, list of beneficiaries, documents related to investment in fixed deposit receipts and other sale proceeds.

The Central Bureau of Investigation had registered two cases on the request of the J&K government which alleged bulk issuance of arms licences in the erstwhile state during 2012-2016.

It was alleged that more than 2.78 lakh arms licences were issued to the non-entitled persons.
