New Delhi, November 27

The CBI today said it had arrested a Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) Police officer in Jammu on the charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant.

Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Sham Lal, posted at the Bishnah police station in Jammu, was arrested for demanding and accepting the money, the CBI said in an official statement.

“The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant. Searches were conducted on the premises of the accused in Jammu,” it read.

A case was registered against the Sham Lal on the allegations of demanding bribe and it was alleged that in September 2020, the complainant had submitted a complaint to the SHO, Bishnah, for the registration of an FIR against certain persons who were allegedly trying to encroach upon and sell his land.
