Srinagar, April 4

The authorities in Kashmir have urged the banks to keep sanitisers and tissue papers available in ATMs for customers to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Though majority of the business establishments and the government offices in the region are closed amid lockdown, but banks, including both private and government owned, are open as they have been categorised as essential services.

“The customers visiting the ATM booths have to invariably touch the ATM machine for withdrawal of money and there is a potential risk of the spread of coronavirus from one person to another,” District Magistrate, Baramulla, north Kashmir, observed in his orders.

“Now, therefore, in view of the above it is hereby ordered that all banks/branches shall ensure placement of sanitisers and tissue (papers) in the ATM booths for the use of customers,” reads the order, while warning the bankers that any violation of the order would invite penal action. — TNS
