Srinagar, July 7

An army jawan was killed and two men from security forces were wounded in an ongoing encounter with militants in Pulwama district on Tuesday, police said.

A militant was also killed in the encounter.

The gunfight erupted at Goosu village when the security forces cordoned off the village around midnight following an intelligence input about the presence of militants in the area.

“The contact with the militants was established at 5.45 am and in the operation so far one militant has been killed,” a police officer said.

Mobile internet services have been snapped in the district as a precautionary measure.

Two days ago, a CRPF jawan was injured in a low-intensity IED blast in Pulwama. Hours later, the security forces had recovered another IED planted in the area during the search operation.
