Jammu, August 1

In a fresh ceasefire violation by Pakistan Army along the Line of Control on Saturday, an Army soldier lost his life in Balakot sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu-based defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand confirmed the killing.

The deceased has been identified as Sepoy Rohin Kumar of Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh.

This is the seventh killing of soldiers along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri sector in Pakistan shelling in the past two months.

According to the official statistics, Pakistan Army has violated ceasefire for over 2,700 times this year so far.

DGP Dilbagh Singh had recently said that the ceasefire violations by Pakistan had increased by 50-60 per cent as compared to last year.

“In 2019, there was an increase of 70 per cent in incidents of ceasefire violations in comparison to 2018. And if we compare with the last year, there is an increase of 50-60 per cent this year. Under the garb of ceasefire violations, Pakistan and its agencies aim to push more terrorists to this side of border,” he had said.

On July 17, three civilians were killed when Pakistani troops shelled various forward areas and civilian places along the LoC in Khari Karmara sector of Poonch district.
