The Army organised a medical patrol for the nomadic Gujjars and Bakarwal population living in far off areas of Rajouri district.
Health care infrastructure is poor in remote areas of south of Pir Panjal consisting of Rajouri and Poonch districts. It particularly affects the women, who have to rush to nearest medical centres to get proper medical treatment. The nomad community of Gujjars and Bakarwals are mostly affected due to the difficult terrain and weather condition.
“Army conducted a medical patrol at Pangai, Rajouri district, to reach out to the people staying in remote areas to provide awareness regarding various diseases and their symptoms along with proactive measures to stem the tide of the same,” an official spokesperson of the Army said.
He said that the Army patrol consisted of army doctors, who provided assistance with free health check-up and medicines to the needy. A total of 130 (37 women, 65 men and 28 children) were interacted with and given medicines during the medical patrol.
“A lecture was also organised during this medical patrol to emphasise on the importance of good eating habits, balanced diet plan and maintaining personal hygiene and sanitation to increase happiness quotient amongst the populace in the area,” the spokesperson said.
