Jammu, January 18

One soldier was killed and two others injured on Thursday in a landmine explosion in Nowshera area near the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district.

As per reports, the deceased was an Agniveer soldier hailing from Ludhiana. While one of the injured soldiers has suffered serious injuries, the other sustained some minor injuries. The soldiers belonged to the 17 Sikh Light Infantry.

As per an Army official, the incident took place at around 10.30am on Thursday when the soldiers were on a patrol duty close to Line of Control.

The incident took place 300 metres from the forward defence line.

The injured were immediately airlifted to the Command Hospital at Udhampur.

Landmines have become a major cause of worry for the Army as such incidents are common along LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts. These mines were planted years ago to thwart infiltration attempts by terrorists. However, due to rains and other geological factors these get dislocated.

Locals and Armymen often become victim of landmines in these areas.
