60 CRPF men among 260 testing positive for coronavirus in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir reported six new coronavirus deaths and 260 new cases on Tuesday---the highest single-day spike the union territory has seen yet.

Officials said 60 troopers from the Central Reserve Police Force were among those who tested positive.

The development takes the UT’s COVID-19 death toll to 101 from 7,497 infections.

Five of the six deaths were from Kashmir, and the last was from Jammu, officials said.

Kashmir accounts for 89 of the UT’s 101 deaths.

“In UT of J&K, 260 new positive cases have been reported since our last update yesterday which include 32 from Jammu and 228 from Kashmir. Also, six CoVID-19 deaths have been reported from Jammu and Kashmir,” reads the media bulletin on novel coronavirus.

At least 137 COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals of J&K, bulletin says.

Srinagar district has reported 24 COVID-19 deaths, the highest in any district in J&K.

Baramulla (16), Kulgam (13), Shopian (12), Jammu (7), Budgam (7), Anantnag (7), Kupwara (5), Pulwama (4), Udhampur (1), Kathua (1), Rajouri (1), Doda (1), Bandipora (1) and Poonch (1) make up the rest of the union territory’s death toll.

Official bulletin revealed that out of 260 new positive cases 64 were reported from Kulgam. Srinagar (46),  Baramulla (44), Shopian (19), Budgam (19), Anantnag (17), Pulwama (14), Jammu (12), Udhampur (7), Kathua (5), Ramban (5), Bandipora (3), Rajouri (2), Ganderbal (1), Kupwara (1), and Samba (1) all reported new cases, the bulletin shows.

The positive cases included eight pregnant women, officials said.

Kashmir accounts for 78.5 per cent (5,887) of the UT’s COVID-19 cases.
