6 more people die of COVID in J&K, toll climbs to 138

UT also records 246 fresh cases, taking the total tally of affected persons to 8,675

With six fresh deaths, the COVID-19 toll in J&K reached 138 on Monday, even as 246 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

According to an official bulletin issued this evening, 246 people tested positive – 36 from Jammu division and 210 from Kashmir division – taking the total number of cases in J&K to 8,675.

The bulleting added that 63 COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various UT hospitals in the last 24 hours, this included eight persons from Jammu division and 55 from Kashmir.

Meanwhile, worries increased for the health authorities in Samba and Jammu after 21 employees of a soft-drink factory belonging to various places in the twin districts tested positive on Sunday.

Accordingly, many new areas have been sealed and fresh restrictions imposed as per the COVID-19 protocol.

As per the reports, one of the latest fatalities was a soldier from the central security forces.

While Kashmir division has reported 124 deaths so far, 14 people have died of the virus in Jammu region.

The health officials said of the total 8,675 positive cases, 2,516 have been reported as travellers.

The administration, meanwhile, stressed upon people to maintain physical distance of at least two metres, frequently clean hands with an alcohol based hand sanitiser or wash them with soap and water and follow good respiratory etiquette and hygiene to avoid contracting COVID-19.
