577 cases in J&K, 28 in Ladakh

The Covid tally of J&K rose to 91,329 on Saturday with 577 fresh cases, while the death toll climbed to 1,430 as six more people succumbed to the disease, officials said.

Of the fresh cases, 213 were from the Jammu region and 364 from Kashmir, they said.

Srinagar district reported the highest number of new cases at 130, followed by 116 in Jammu district. There were 7,680 active Covid cases, while 82,219 patients had recovered so far, they said.

Lab inaugurated

  • Ladakh Lt Governor Radha Krishna Mathur inaugurated a newly established RT-PCR laboratory at a hospital designated for treating Covid patients at Kurbathang in Kargil district on Friday.
  • The laboratory, with a fully automatic Biorad RTPCR machine and an RNA extractor machine, has the capacity to test 96 samples at one go, an official spokesperson said.

Out of the six deaths recorded in the union territory on Saturday, three each were reported from Jammu and Kashmir. With these, the death toll stood at 1,430, they said.

Leh: With 28 fresh cases, the Covid tally of Ladakh has shot up to 5,840, an official bulletin said on Saturday.

Ladakh has so far recorded 68 deaths due to Covid, while the number of cured patients has gone up to 4,984 with 82 people being discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours, according to the bulletin released by the Directorate of Health Services.

Of the new cases, 18 were reported from Leh district and 10 from Kargil district.

The bulletin said 72 patients were discharged in Leh and 10 in Kargil, bringing down the number of active Covid cases in the UT to 788 — 650 in Leh and 138 in Kargil. — PTI
