4 dead, 3 hurt as car falls into Ramban gorge

Rs 5 lakh announced for deceased’s kin, Rs 50K for injured

Four persons were killed and three injured when a vehicle carrying them fell into a deep gorge in Ramban district of Jammu division on Monday.

The SUV carrying the victims was on its way from Ukhrall to Maligam. According to information, the driver of the vehicle was not able to negotiate a sharp curve. Soon after the accident, local residents rushed to help the victims.

The police was informed by local residents after which the bodies and also those injured were brought to the main road from the gorge.

The police said the driver, Sajjad Ahmad, and others, identified as Abdul Wahid Bali, Aanayatullah and Mohammad Ayoub Bali, lost their lives in the incident.

The three persons injured in the accident were shifted to the primary health centre in the area. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced ex gratia for the victims of Ramban road accident and also those who lost their lives in a tragic landslide in Reasi on Sunday. Rs 5 lakh has been announced for the next of the kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000. “I am deeply saddened to learn of the loss of precious lives in an unfortunate road accident in Ramban today. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families and praying for the speedy recovery of those injured,” he said.

Ramban Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary said, “Deeply saddened by the tragic accident at Abas Morh, Maligam, Pogal in Ukhral. Heartfelt condolences to grieving families. We stand in solidarity during these trying times.”

Union Minister Jitendra Singh mentioned on X, “Just now spoke to Ramban DC Baseer-ul-Haq after learning about the unfortunate accident at Pogal in which four persons have lost their lives and an injured shifted to Banihal hospital. My condolences to the bereaved family. I am in constant touch with the administration. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected.”
