3,164 cases, 25 deaths in 24 hrs

The UT on Tuesday recorded its highest single-day spike of 3,164 Covid cases, which took the tally to 1,66,054, while 25 fatalities over the last 24 hours took the toll to 2,197, officials said.

NC Vice-President tests negative

Srinagar: National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah tested negative for Covid on Tuesday, 18 days after testing positive for the virus. Taking to Twitter, the ex-CM said he was lucky that he had no symptoms except for a blocked nose. His father and NC president Farooq Abdullah had tested positive last month. PTI

Out of the fresh cases, 1,030 were from the Jammu division and 2,134 from the Kashmir division. Srinagar district recorded the highest of 1,144 cases, followed by 489 in Jammu and 197 in Baramulla district.

The active cases in the Union Territory have reached 22,283 and 1,41,574 patients have recovered so far. The death toll has rise to 2,197 with 25 new deaths.

Ladakh's Covid caseload has increased to 13,502 as 145 more people tested positive for the disease in the Union Territory, officials said.

Of the fresh cases reported the previous day, 138 were from Leh and seven from Kargil, they said. According to the officials, the number of active cases in Ladakh stands at 1,857 — 1,758 in Leh and 99 in Kargil.

So far, 138 people — 94 from Leh and 44 from Kargil — have died due to the virus.

As many as 313 Covid patients — 306 in Leh and seven in Kargil — were discharged after successful treatment the previous day. With this, the number of cured persons stands at 11,505, which accounts for over 84 per cent of the total cases, officials added.— PTI
